Welcome!

The DEFEATcancer Online Activity Tracker (Step Converter) was developed by the Cascade Health Community, with support from the Lance Armstrong Foundation, to help cancer survivors improve their lives qualitatively (how one lives) and possibly quantitively (how long one lives).  The peer-reviewed medical literature now documents how exercise can both prevent cancer and reduce the recurrence of cancer in those diagnosed to have it.

For more than 5 years, DEFEATcancer has been working on a method to allow any activity, no matter how sedentary (e.g. bedmaking or gardening) or vigorous (marathon running), to be tracked by cancer patients/survivors so as to encourage them towards better survival.  We originally issued pedometers to our participants, based on 7 randomized trials that documented their benefit, but subsequently found a way to convert virtually all activities to step and thereby avoid having to wear a pedometer.

You need not have had cancer to benefit from Activity Tracker.  There is abundant evidence that increased physical activity to the individual can improve one's quality of life regardless of age, gender, physical health, or socioeconomic status.
